2023-2024 Grant Divine Feminine: Beauty, Strength, Fragility - Multimedia Exhibit at YAYA

Shawn Evans is interested in the “movement and perception of the human body” and “the hyper-sexualization of women’s bodies in modern society.” With this grant, Evans will explore the expression and complexity of the female form through sculpture, painting and multimedia. “I hope to challenge the narrow and limiting stereotypes that often prevail in media and advertising. I also hope to inspire and empower women to embrace their own bodies and to see themselves as beautiful and worthy, regardless of whether or not they fit into mainstream standards of beauty. I want to raise awareness about the damaging effects of objectification, challenge viewers to confront their own assumptions and biases, and to see the human body in a more holistic and nuanced way.”

Evans plans to exhibit this body of work at YAYA’s gallery and invite viewers “to confront their own emotions and experiences, and to connect with the universal themes of love, loss, and identity.”
