KEITH SINGLETON JR.

New Orleans, LA

2022-2023 Transitional Scholarship

Keith Singleton Jr. graduated from New Orleans Science and Math Charter School and New Orleans Center for Creative Arts in 2022. He participated in theater and student journalism and earned a black belt in Taekwon Do. He serves as a junior deacon at First Agape Baptist Church, where he volunteered through a partnership with Second Harvest Food bank providing meals to the community.

Singleton will be working with College and Career Advisor Darryl White to apply to programs where he can focus on digital arts and design. He wants to pursue a career in animation and comic book art. “Most of the inspiration for my artwork comes from the early comic books of the ’70s and ’80s. I appreciate the visuals, artistry, and story told through unique characters,” says Singleton. Before being accepted at YAYA, he never considered a career in the arts.

“I would like to own my comic book store and allow young children to come in to read the books and possibly take art classes/lessons. I want to give back to the community, which has given me lots of opportunities. I want to inspire young people, especially those of color, to take advantage of their educational opportunities, live out their dreams, and know they can do anything as long as they work hard and keep their faith.”

Keith Singleton is a current member of the YAYA young artists’ guild, which he joined in 2018.
