Morgan Prevost is pursuing a BS in Political Science and a minor in Design at Loyola University. Drawing and illustrating have been the foundation of her art practice. Recently, she has been exploring painting and ceramics and will begin learning analog and digital design at Loyola in Fall of 2023. “My illustrations are often of black women like myself, as growing up I didn’t often see myself or my community reflected in the arts. Art is not only a calming activity for me but also sometimes a way to raise awareness for community issues and black historical figures that I draw/paint. And a way to explore the diverse features of my people and how to represent them creatively in art, which is an ongoing process. I take inspiration from media, books (authors like Octavia Butler), historical figures like the Black Panthers, and the people around me,” says Prevost.

She is a current member of the YAYA Guild and serves as Event Coordinator on YAYA’s Youth Artist Leadership Council. She was sponsored by Crafting the Future to attend an advanced program for high school students at the Rhode Island School of Design and to participate in glassblowing and ceramics workshops at Tennessee Tech. She also assisted artist Jamar Pierre in painting a mural on the flood walls on Tchoupitoulas Street. She graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 2023.

Morgan Prevost first joined YAYA in 2019.
