2018-2019 Creative Work Grant Faces and Places of the Lower Ninth Ward photography series
Courtney Clark is a lifelong resident of the Lower Ninth Ward and a passionate community organizer and artist. She is the program coordinator for the Backyard Gardens Network, a nonprofit in the Lower Ninth Ward, which uses food growing traditions as a platform to build community, revitalize the neighborhood, and preserve cultural heritage. Drawing from her intimate relationships within her community, Clark is creating a photography series to capture her neighbors in their everyday lives and celebrations, as well as to document the ongoing neglect of post-Katrina blighted properties. Clark’s photographs are premiering as an exhibition at the Martin Luther King Library in the Lower Ninth Ward, Spring 2019.
Clark studied Fine Art and Visual Communications at Delgado Community College. She also studied culinary medicine at Tulane University and traveled to Italy with the nonprofit Slow Food in 2016.
Clark participated in the YAYA young artists’ guild 1988-1995.
