BRANDON BARTLEY
New Orleans, LA
2024-2025 Grant Nola504 Studio Art Showcase and Network Artbybbartley
Brandon Bartley is a multi-medium artist who is inspired by the city of New Orleans. He says, “I draw inspiration from the vibrant culture, music, and architecture that surrounds me.” Bartley works with graphite, pen, paint, and more to make work that has a positive impact on the community. “My use of the fluidity of paint and natural flow of movement can be seen as an ode to the aquatic nature of my city. By layering colors and textures on various surfaces, I aim to convey the emotional depth and complexity of the human experience. Simultaneously, I seek to honor the vibrant culture and architecture of New Orleans, paying tribute to the city’s resilience, beauty and historic bodies of water that may hold relics of our cultures history,” he reflects.
Through his work, Bartley aims to promote the release of trauma and cultivate healing. “I believe that the act of creating can be a powerful tool for coping with trauma, and I hope to share this gift with others,” he says. “By sharing my art, I aspire to create a safe space for others to process their emotions and find solace in the creative process.” In the same sentiment, he hosts community art events at Nola504Studio, a coworking art exhibit space of which he is a member. The studio is a welcoming space for the community that provides WiFi for local high school students.
Bartley plans to use this grant to support his artistic practice and enhance community engagement at NolaStudio504. He will collaborate with Dae Matthews of Nola504Studios, pastor Gregory Baptiste of Behold the Lamb Ministries, Jonathan Baptiste of Arthub in Austin, TX, and other local artists to reach his goals. Bartley wishes to showcase his work in Austin, TX and create inclusive events celebrating art, culture, music, and resources in New Orleans. He wants to strengthen the network and support system of artists in New Orleans and promote NolaA504Studio as a cultural destination. “This grant will empower me, a full-time artist, to drive positive change and create a thriving artistic community at Nola504Studio, benefiting local artists, residents, and visitors,” says Barley.
Brandon Bartley first joined the YAYA Guild in 2010.
