YAYA Artist

Jeremiah Brown is pursuing a BA in Graphic Design from Delgado Community College. His love for technology and media draws him to graphic design. “I find it fascinating that many things we take for granted such as stop signs, car wraps, billboards, and packaging,” says Brown, noting that these things exist to clearly translate information to the public, all thanks to graphic design.

He has a penchant for creating digital portraits. “My artistic process begins with a photoshoot, says Brown. “I take the photos and turn them into illustrations, then pull them back into Photoshop for more of a refined look. The mosaic style of my art takes inspiration from the process of scarification done in Africa.” Brown’s personal struggles with mental health and the hope that he finds in Afro-futurism are reflected in his work. In addition to creating still images, Brown is interested in filmmaking and expanding his illustration practice into animation.

He credits the 10 years he has spent in the YAYA guild for opening many other doors in the art world to him. I have made connections with professional artists that I now consider friends. “I have done everything from glass-blowing demos in Tacoma to large-scale sculpture installations in Napa,” says Brown, who has participated in numerous residencies across the U.S.

Jeremiah Brown graduated from New Orleans International High School in 2017. He is an active member of the YAYA guild, which he joined in 2014.
