TYRIK CONALER
New Orleans, LA
2024-2025 Grant Perception vs. Perspective Exhibition
Tyrik Conaler is a multimedia artist who employs a diverse array of materials to harmoniously articulate his worldview. “Each medium serves as a thread weaving through the fabric of my creative expression, allowing the flow of my ideas and interpretations,” he says. Conaler begins his artistic process with photography, capturing moments that deeply resonate with him. These photographs serve as inspiration and building blocks for digital work. Guided by visuals formed in the digital realm, he then translates concepts into paintings and sculptures. He draws inspiration for his work from the vibrant streets of New Orleans and the emotional depth of his relationships.
With this grant, Conaler will develop a new body of work relating to the theme of perception vs. perspective with the hopes of exhibiting at YAYA. “I'm intrigued by questions of identity—who we are, why we are the way we are—and I want to delve into that through my art,” he says. “I believe that while our individual thoughts may differ, the emotions we all experience that result in our thoughts are fundamentally the same.” In addition to exploring these themes, he is striving to think bigger and increase the scale of his works. Equipped with new photography equipment, he plans to create high quality images to print, exhibit, and reference for digital work. He hopes that his work transcends individual narratives and sparks dialogue across cultures. “In a world filled with noise and chaos, I hope that my art can serve as a beacon of beauty, truth, and connection, bringing people together in shared moments of wonder and awe.”
Tyrik Conaler first joined the YAYA Guild in 2015.
