2025-2026 Grant Creative Art Solutions Launch
Grant 2013
Timeka Junius is a creative professional with a passion for arts education and community engagement. This grant will support the launch of Creative Arts Solutions, a program designed to bring art programming to spaces where it is currently nonexistent. “I currently work in schools where arts education is either underfunded and in some schools it's nonexistent. This lack of creative outlets stifles self-expression and opportunity,” reflects Junius. “Through Creative Art Solutions, I will fill that gap—bringing community-centered, inclusive, and engaging art programming to the youth, families, and institutions in need.”
She recalls the importance of YAYA, a tuition-free creative outlet she experienced in her teen years, “I have seen firsthand how art transforms lives, opening doors for me to foster self-discovery through creative expression, build confidence, travel and see new possibilities for my future.”
Junius is partnering with Metropolitan Human Services District, whose Child and Youth Service Program partners with youth-focused organizations and schools to provide positive behavior support services for students in-school and after-school programs. Creative Arts Solutions will aim to empower youth, connect generations, and foster self-discovery by offering quality, engaging, and culturally relevant arts programming. Additionally, the program will provide career-building opportunities, such as training in art instruction and creative professionalism. Junius has the long-term goal of providing a creative hub and shared studio space in New Orleans East, where multicultural activities are currently limited.
Timeka Junius spent 15 years as the Director of Programs at YAYA Arts Center. In that role, she designed and implemented creative programs that served over 1,000 artistically talented youth in New Orleans through partnerships with more than 50 schools and organizations. She is now excited to establish her own business, continue her work independently as a teaching artist, educator, and entrepreneur, and transition into a full-time role as a creative and leadership development consultant.
Timeka Junius first joined the YAYA Guild in 1993.
