MANNY COOPER

New Orleans, LA

2026-2027 Scholarship Loyola University of New Orleans

Manny Cooper is beginning his journey in higher education at Loyola University in Fall 2026. He is pursuing a dual major in Pre Health Science and Design Arts, a decision that reflects his belief that creativity, compassion, and innovation can change lives. “My passion lies at the intersection of the arts, medical service, and technology—fields where I can help others while expressing my full potential,” states Cooper.

Cooper’s focus is creating characters that reflect strength, survival, and emotional depth through digital illustration. He is inspired by stories of survival and the history of South Louisiana. “Growing up in Louisiana, where history and culture are deeply connected to the present, has made me think about how people carry their past with them while continuing to move forward,” he explains, noting the resilience and transformation he sees in his community. “A person’s scars—whether physical or emotional—do not define their limits but can instead represent the battles they have overcome.” He looks to graphic novels, animations, and video games as blueprints for great character design, noting how these mediums manage to build entire narratives from a single image.

Cooper was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in 2022, which gave him insight into his uniqueness and appreciation for the differences between us all. “Rather than limit me, my diagnosis opened my eyes to the 'superpowers' that come with neurodiversity—especially in my artistic and analytical abilities. It has strengthened my confidence, and empowered me to advocate for others who also learn and express themselves differently,” he explains, stating his desire to help young people reach their full potential. “I see healthcare and mental health services as opportunities to combine empathy, education, and innovation in life-changing ways,” he reflects.

Cooper graduated from St. Augustine High School in Spring 2026. In 2025, he interned as a Digital Storyteller at the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice. He attended Stanford’s AI Bootcamp, completed a Google IT support course, was named a Civics Ambassador by the Close Up Foundation, and has volunteered at the Whitney Plantation, where he learned how visual storytelling brings healing to communities. He is an active member of the YAYA Artist Guild.
