Jada Junius is continuing on her journey toward an A.A. at Delgado Community College. She uses a variety of media to explore themes of identity, resilience, and vulnerability. “Different clays allow me to focus on detail, structure, and contrast, while paint gives me the freedom to communicate mood, movement, and energy through color. Mixed media allows me to layer textures and ideas in ways that reflect how complex personal experiences can be,” she explains. Her work is deeply connected to personal experience, observations, and memories of her surroundings. “I pay attention to people, spaces, memories, and emotions that leave an impression on me. Sometimes inspiration comes from quiet everyday moments, while other times it comes from conflict, transformation, or personal reflection,” says Junius.
Junius’s creative practice allows her to express what cannot be said out loud. “Through making art, I am able to transform confusion into clarity and struggle into something meaningful,” she explains. “It is not only a form of expression, but also a form of healing, discipline, and connection.” She learned to value strength, adaptability and self-expression by watching her community persevere. “These values appear in my work through bold contrasts, layered imagery, and subjects that reflect emotional honesty. I am interested in telling stories that feel real and relatable rather than distant or perfect. My work is for anyone who has ever felt unseen, unheard, or misunderstood,” states Junius. Her goal is to continue growing, experimenting, and creating meaningful work. “Ultimately, I create because art has the power to transform pain into beauty, silence into voice, and ordinary moments into something lasting,” she concludes.
Jada Junius graduated from New Orleans Science and Mathematics High School in 2024. She has worked as a teaching artist at YAYA, ReNew Schools, and Hope Harvest Summer Camp and has participated in youth development training. She has been trained as an Automotive Service Technician by the U.S. Army. She is a current member of the YAYA Artist Guild which she joined in 2018.
